Screening Success for Ultra Spreader at Portmarnock

Portmarnock Golf Club one of the oldest golf courses in Ireland, has recently taken delivery of a new ‘Ultra Screen’ soil screener from Ultra Spreader International, the Northern Ireland based turf maintenance equipment specialists.

Portmarnock Golf Club is located on a small peninsula that pierces southward out into the Irish Sea. Surrounded by water on three sides and laid out in a serpentine fashion, no two successive holes play in the same direction creating a challenge that lives long in the memory. The course has hosted many major events including the Walker Cup, British Amateur and the Irish Open. The course has some extraordinary holes including the 14th, which Henry Cotton regarded as the best hole in golf and the 15th which Arnold Palmer regards as the best Par-3 in the world.

The new piece of equipment joins an existing fleet of machinery already supplied to the club by Ultra Spreader, namely the UB30S and UB60S top dressers.

Head Greenkeeper Gary Johnstone specified the new Ultra Screen after looking at several different types of screens and based his decision on the fact that the machine produces clean materials at approximately 40 tonnes per hour.

Commenting on his recent purchase he said, “In any purchasing decision I always consult my staff as they are the people who will be working with equipment on a daily basis. That’s the process we employed with this latest round of purchasing. I also believe that the Ultra Screen is, without doubt, the best there is on the market today.”

Johnstone continued: “Another major factor in us purchasing the equipment was the very professional, friendly and helpful team at Ultra Spreader who were always willing to listen to our needs and because of this we’ll soon be purchasing a second UB60S for top dressing our greens.”

Roll Up & Roll Out

Ultra Spreader International chose the recent BTME event to launch two new products. The latest newcomers to their existing range of spin & drop spreaders, tippers, trailers and screeners were the 'Ultra Mat' and the 'Ultra Diamond Brush'.

The 'Ultra Mat' is an all rubber dragmat. The mat is available in different sizes, making it ideal for large-scale treatments of any natural or synthetic grass area.

Designed for a one-pass operation without damaging the surface, the dragmats can be used for a variety of jobs including breaking up aeration cores and 'swirling' in top dressing materials.

They are available in 1.2m, 1.8m, 2.4m and 3m width sizes.

They can be pulled by hand via a heavy duty draw bar and rope assembly, mounted on a tractor or attached to turf utility vehicles.

The dragmats are able to 'roll up' and 'roll out' for easy handling and compact storage.

The second product launched; the 'Ultra Diamond Brush' is a new diamond shaped broom which can be supplied with a different type of bristle for use on different surfaces.

‘Flat Packed’ Spreader

Ultra Spreader International has launched a new and improved UB30 model to the existing range of spreaders, screeners and trailers which the company already manufacturer.

The new UB30 model will be available in a ‘bolt-together’ option allowing the machine to be ‘flat-packed’ before being exported.

A galvanised hopper with a greater capacity has also been added giving far better wear resistance than the previous model.

The new model is light enough to topdress golf greens and tees. The conveyor can feed the twin disc spinners for the even spreading of sand and topdressing, whether wet or dry. It’s also perfect for fertiliser applications and for the distribution of wood bark, stone chips, sand and grass clippings.

The Ultra Spreader UB30 is the latest addition to a full range of topdressers available from Ultra Spreader International, who have more than 30 years experience of manufacturing robust, well-priced machines that you can rely on.

Ultra Plant choose IOG SALTEX to spread the word about name change

Ultra Plant, the Northern-Ireland based manufacturer of top dressers, sand spreaders and high-lift trailers chose IOG SALTEX as an ideal venue to relaunch as Ultra Spreader International.

Managing Director Kevin Gates said that the name change was an important part of continuing to grow the company. “We felt that ‘Ultra Plant’ didn’t accurately describe our core business to the international market. Our new name reflects both the products we manufacture and our expanding client base”.

Ultra Plant began trading in 1991 and immediately found demand for its range in Europe. The company now distributes to the Far East, the USA, Canada and much of Europe and well as being the leading choice in the domestic market.

The re branding, managed by Fusion Media, covers its company literature, product graphics and advertising. A revitalised website will also be unveiled later in September at www.ultraspreader.com

The ultimate in versatility from Ultra Plant

When it comes to versatility, the Ultra Pro-101 from UltraPlant is surely the ‘swiss army knife’ of topdressers.

With its central swivel ring, the conveyor can be turned through 180 degrees and can be retracted and extended, raised and lowered without the operative even having to leave the cab.

Ideal for backfilling drains, bunkers, flower-beds and verges and for loading trucks and drainage hoppers, the conveyor can feed the twin disc spinners for the even spreading of sand and topdressing, whether wet or dry. It’s also perfect for fertiliser applications and for the distribution of wood bark, stone chips, sand and grass clippings.

Ultra Plant’s display snapped up at Saltex

Staff from Northern Ireland-based topdresser manufacturer Ultra Plant left this years’ IOG Saltex with a key piece of their stand display missing, after selling one of their largest exhibits on the show’s second day.

Finbarr Fox, Managing Director of Fox Contracts bought the Multi Pro 101 multi purpose materials handler from the company who are local to them in County Tyrone.

He was originally looking to buy a bulk Ultra Spreader topdresser and a gravel cart for drainage, until he discovered that the Multi Pro and just one operator could do both of these jobs and various others as well.

Ideal for both contractors and golf courses, the Multi Pro is ideal for filling bunkers, hoppers and spreaders and for backfilling drains. The conveyor can be retracted to feed into the twin disc spinners, which never need to be demounted for spreading sand and topdressing.

Mr. Fox said: “As a contractor, I need machinery that can complete tasks efficiently and with the minimum of manpower. We also aim to cause minimum disruption to the playing surface. The Multi Pro has a long conveyor, meaning that we can keep further back from the edge of the drain, load into the hopper of other machines such as a trencher and its wide 4-in-line wheels won’t mark the ground.”
